Congratulations Luka!
I was a very proud mom yesterday when Luka BEHAVED despite the 4 new faces surrounding him. Ok, his behaviour was not "perfect", but who can expect perfection from a 1.5 year old bernese mountain dog puppy?
When Brian, Luka and I arrived at the Cascarano's house yesterday evening, I new we were facing a tough situation: Luka is always excited to go see Brian's parents - which by the way has nothing to do with the fact he gets praise, toys and bones everytime we visit them - but the 4 family friends visiting from California were my biggest concern.
Even though Luka is now a very obedient dog, his energy level is still that of a big puppy. To top it off, we were told by 2 veterinarians that he is a hyperactive dog. His blood pressure rises drastically when he gets excited (which can be observed by the white of his eyes turning pink and the inside of his ears warming up) and it doesn't take him much stimulation to get excited - chewing a bone usually does it.
To my great surprise, it took Luka only 2-3 minutes to calm down in the middle of all these strangers. What an improvement! When you think of it, just a few months ago, it would take him a solid 15 minutes to calm down around know family members!
Once he was calm, I made him do a few tricks which he performed flawlessly.
After all, there is some hope for that big furry dog! He is really showing the potential to become not only a good family dog but a great one!

Sam Edward

Yummy cell phone
What more to say that Luka enjoyed chewing my Nokia very much... It's the second time he get his teeth on it: the first time, he broke the antenna, and this time he managed to destroy the screen. By some mysterious miracle, I'm still able to call and receive calls on it but I'm definitely going to need a new one!
Thought of the day: ... so THAT'S what they meant when they said having a dog was expensive!

Luka's roommate
Did I forget to introduce Romeo?
Romeo is my... almost 8 year old siamese mixed cat. He is very affectionate and social and was not-so-happy to have a new roommate who weights about 6 times more than him and is still a very energetic puppy who tends to underestimate his weight and strength.
Despite the occasional territorial marking, he is rather patient with Luka and tolerates a lot of his random attacks.
Sometimes, if you're very lucky, you might see him squeeze in through the gate to go lay down next to Luka when he's isolated. It's just too cute.
